Durham solar-powered car to race prototypes in Australia

A lightweight car which is powered by the sun and was designed and created by students from Durham University is preparing for its biggest challenge.

The engineering students' solar-powered vehicle, which cost tens of thousands of pounds to create, is about to compete against 50 other prototypes in a 3,000km (1,800-mile) race across the Australian Outback.

Durham team leader Toby McBride says the team, which has spent the last three years putting the car together, are confident it can perform well and could even win.
