A patient has been clapped out of the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle as its last Covid ward is closed.
David Scholes spent five weeks on Ward 48 and is one of the last patients to leave to recover at home.
The 64-year-old from Prudhoe, Northumberland, said he felt "very lucky" and was looking forward to "opening the patio doors and breathing the fresh air in" at home.
