Whitley Bay scout hut in DIY SOS-style community revamp
A dilapidated scout hut in Whitley Bay is being transformed by volunteers after an appeal for help from the local community.
Michelle Parrack, group scout leader of the 21st Whitley Bay Scouts, called the BBC Radio Newcastle breakfast show to ask for help to save a "massive part of the community".
Presenter Matt Bailey and the breakfast team went down to the building to get stuck in and meet the tradesman and locals helping for free with the DIY SOS-style renovation.
Michelle said she was "emotional and speechless" at the kindness of people coming forward to lend a hand.
It is hoped the group of more than 50 beavers, cubs and scouts will be able to return to their hub in June.
