Injured owl Rocky reaches for the sky

An owl which was not expected to survive after being tied to a tree and suffering serious injuries has made a full recovery and is already well enough to return to the wild.

The owl, named as Rocky by volunteers looking after him at Selby Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, was found two weeks ago in a park in Sherburn-in-Elmet, North Yorkshire, with injuries to one of its wings.

But one-year-old Rocky, whose plight has attracted interest from internet users around the world, is preparing to take to the air again after being nursed back to health.
