Nick Clegg: "The mask has slipped" after Jim Wells gay abuse remarks

The Liberal Democrat leader has said the "mask has slipped" after comments made by NI Health Minister Jim Wells' on Thursday.

Speaking at an event in Sheffield, Nick Clegg said Mr Wells' comments had lifted the lid on some "really unpleasant views".

Mr Wells told a hustings event: "You don't bring a child up in a homosexual relationship. That a child is far more likely to be abused and neglected...."

The DUP South Down candidate made the comments during a discussion on gay marriage.
