Offenders serving time outside prison

More than 170 offenders in Northern Ireland convicted of crimes that normally attract jail terms of a year or less take up the option of serving their time outside prison.

The Enhanced Combination Order combines community service with strict supervision.

It was developed by the probation board in an effort to deter those who end up in custody from re-offending.
