Paddy McCourt's conviction was 'grave miscarriage of justice'

A solicitor for the former Celtic and Northern Ireland footballer Paddy McCourt has criticised police after a court quashed the player's conviction for sexual assault.

In May, Mr McCourt was found guilty of inappropriately touching a woman in a bar in Londonderry in January 2022.

But a court in the city has overturned that conviction on appeal.

Mr McCourt's solicitor Ciarán Shiels described his conviction as a "grave miscarriage of justice" which should never have come before the courts.
