DUP deal: 'Green lane will go and goods will flow freely'
Sir Jeffrey Donaldson says the green lane proposed as part of post-Brexit rules for goods flowing between Great Britain and Northern Ireland "will go" as part of its deal with the government.
On Monday, the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) endorsed a deal to restore power sharing after a 23-month absence.
Sir Jeffrey, the party leader, said it provided a basis for Stormont's return, subject to laws being passed at parliament.
"Some people have said you're going to take the green lane, paint it red, white and blue and put a flag on it - well if someone wants to put a flag on it, whatever," he said.
"But as far as we’re concerned the green lane will go and be replaced by the UK internal market system that reflects the reality that NI is part of the UK, that goods flowing within the UK flow freely, that was our core key objective."
He was speaking to the media after talks at Hillsborough Castle with Northern Ireland Secretary Chris Heaton-Harris.
