Stirrup: 'Any nuclear deterrent must be credible"
Air Chief Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup has told a Commons committee that any lesser replacement for Trident would not be "credible".
Britain's nuclear weapons system is made up of four submarines, based at the Faslane naval base on the Clyde, which can deploy Trident ballistic missiles carrying nuclear warheads.
Giving evidence to the Commons Public Administration Committee,Sir Jock stressed that it was for politicians to decide whether the UK should have a nuclear deterrent.
