Defence cuts should be 'coherent'

Spending cuts are top of the agenda at the Conservative Party conference, but few cases are as sensitive, given the commitment in Afghanistan, as the defence budget.

The Defence Secretary, Liam Fox, spoke at a fringe meeting before addressing the main conference on Wednesday.

He has already warned of 'grave consequences' if the armed forces lose too much funding, but told the BBC he was confident any changes could be justified in military terms.
