Osborne supports 'friend in need' as UK offers loan

Chancellor George Osborne has told MPs strong economic links with Ireland mean it is "overwhelmingly in Britain's national interest" to contribute to a major bailout.

Speaking in the House of Commons he also said the support was vital partly because the Republic buys 5% of Britain's exports.
