Protests start as MPs debate tuition fee rises

Thousands of students have begun marching through central London in protest at the coalition government's plans to triple university tuition fees in England.

MPs have started debating the issue in the commons.

They'll vote on the plans this afternoon.

The policy has caused deep divisions among Liberal Democrats who had pledged to oppose any increases in fees, before the election.

It is thought up to a third of Lib Dem MPs could rebel and vote against the government.
