EMA is 'poorly targeted' says Michael Gove
Education Secretary Michael Gove said the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) had been "poorly targeted" and reiterated his plans to scrap the grant.
MPs have been debating a call for the government to rethink its announcement that it would remove the means-tested allowances of between £10 and £30 per week which are currently paid to low-income 16 to 19-year-olds in the UK.
Mr Gove blamed the need to do away with the grant, on the deficit the inherited from the last Labour government.
