Michael Gove announces EMA replacement

The government has announced a £180m bursary scheme to replace the Education Maintenance Allowances (EMA) which were scrapped in England last year.

Education Secretary Michael Gove told the Commons that 12,000 students with the greatest needs will receive an annual bursary of £1,200 if they continue their education.

Mr Gove said the new system will see students receiving more money than the current EMA arrangements.
