Ken Clarke rape comments raised at PMQs to Cameron

Ed Miliband said Justice Secretary Ken Clarke should be out of his job by the end of the day after comments made about sentencing those convicted of rape, during a BBC Radio 5 Live interview.

David Cameron told the House of Commons that Ed Miliband was "jumping on a bandwagon" and he had not heard the radio exchange with Victoria Derbyshire.

Mr Clarke defended the plan to halve jail sentences for people who plead guilty early and said rape cases were the "strongest example" of why he supported the idea, because it would reduce the trauma for victims.

He said in the radio interview: "Serious rape - I don't think many judges give five years for a forcible rape frankly, the tariff is longer than that. A serious rape with violence and an unwilling woman - the tariff is longer than that."
