PM's stance on Europe undemocratic, says Bernard Jenkin

A conservative MP has called David Cameron's stance on Europe "undemocratic".

Bernard Jenkin told BBC Breakfast that the majority of British people would like a referendum on the UK's membership of the European Union.

But David Cameron has issued a three line whip ordering Tory MPs to vote against a referendum.

The prime minister is facing growing unrest from his backbenchers over the issue, with around 70 Tory MPs expected to ignore the whips and vote in favour.

Mr Jenkin is among them.
