Nick Clegg attacks Tory marriage tax break plans

Nick Clegg has attacked the Conservative Party's idea of tax breaks for married couples, saying it is an example of the party's reluctance to change.

The deputy prime minister accused some Tories of wanting to return to the 1950s, in comparison with his own "progressive" Liberal Democrat party.

He said strong parental relationships were "immensely important", but that the state should not "use the tax system to encourage a particular family form".
