Families hard hit by tax and benefit changes, FPI says

Families with children will be hardest hit by tax and benefit changes aimed at cutting the deficit, the Family and Parenting Institute (FPI) charity says.

It claims the average income of households with children will drop by 4.2% between 2010-11 and 2015-16, the equivalent of £1,250 a year but that the average household income will fall just 0.9%, or £215 a year.

Speaking to the BBC, FPI spokesperson Katherine Rake said that families were having to shoulder a disproportionate burden in the government's attempts to balance the books.
