Shami Chakrabarti: Abu Qatada should face UK trial

The director of the Liberty human rights group cited Sir Winston Churchill as she put the case against deporting Abu Qatada to Jordan where he is wanted to face trial.

Shami Chakrabarti said she detested the terror suspect's views as she called him to face a British trial, adding UK citizens would not be sent to Jordan and "your passport should not affect your right to a fair criminal trial".

This was followed by a debate where she argued with former Home Secretary Alan Johnson.
