Gay marriage: Bishop of Norwich and Chris Bryant MP

The Bishop of Norwich claimed allowing gay marriage would create "new minorities".

The Right Rev Graham James said civil partnerships allow "stable, permanent and faithful relationships to be recognised in law".

Labour MP Chris Bryant said it was depressing the Church of England could not get its history right and marriage had been changing through the generations.

Civil partnerships were introduced in 2005 to give same-sex couples the same legal rights as married couples, but they cannot be referred to as marriages.
