Church of England warning over gay marriage

The Church of England says legalising gay marriage could provoke its biggest clash with the government for 500 years.

In a strongly worded document submitted to ministers, the Church said it could be forced out of its historic role of conducting weddings on behalf of the state.

The Home Office says no religious organisation will be forced to conduct same-sex weddings.
