London 2012 Olympic Games legacy: Jowell and Jenkins

The chairman of the National Trust queried why it took an Olympics Games to regenerate east London and said he doubted whether the capital really would benefit from the event.

Simon Jenkins claimed theatres and hotels would suffer a slump in trade and many Londoners could struggle to get to work throughout the Games.

But former Olympics minister Dame Tessa Jowell said many of the projects under way would not have happened otherwise, as they debated after watching a Daily Politics film on the Olympic budget and legacy.
