Nick Clegg: I will see this journey through

The deputy prime minister has said he has a duty and a will to "see the journey [of being in government] through".

Speaking to BBC Radio 4's The World At One from the Liberal Democrat Autumn conference in Brighton, Nick Clegg said that "you don't bail out when it gets tough" and believes that "if we hold firm... many people will come to admire what we have done... [and] support us come the general election."

He told Martha Kearney that he "fights the Liberal Democrat corner every day" and that many of what has been delivered by the government is "pure 100 per cent Liberal Democrat".

He said that a lot of work remains to be done and cites a "social objective" of making Britain a "more social and mobile place".

On the subject of wealth tax, Mr Clegg said his party is "ahead of the curve" and that as a matter of principal they believe the tax system should "start at the top and work down".
