BBC sex claims and Entwistle: Tessa Jowell and Conor Burns

The BBC has been handling its own crisis "appallingly" said Tory MP Conor Burns over the Newsnight sex claims and outgoing director general George Entwistle's £450,000 pay-off.

He said there was "an air" of political motivation about the false claims linking a Conservative peer to child sex abuse, and added: "That upset a number of us, we were very angry about that".

The Labour MP and former culture secretary Tessa Jowell said of the BBC's problems over the last decade: "There is a bit of a pattern here, they are not good at handling crises."

They spoke to Andrew Neil and Jo Coburn hours after the the BBC's head of news and her deputy stood aside.
