Minister denies flood insurance talks at 'crisis point'

Environment Secretary Owen Paterson has responded to claims from an insurers' body that talks on flood insurance are at "crisis point" and could leave 200,000 homes without cover.

He was answering a series of questions from his shadow counterpart, Mary Creagh, who called on the chancellor to "get a grip" on the situation and conclude a deal with the Association of British Insurers.

Mr Paterson rebuffed her remarks, saying: "Today's story is complete nonsense."

He also denied that cuts had threatened flood defences.
