Communications Bill: James Brokenshire and Shami Chakrabarti
The proposed web-snooping powers wanted by the government in the draft Data Communication Bill were "not blanket surveillance", Home Office Minister James Brokenshire has said.
But Shami Chakrabarti from Liberty claimed the powers and the collected data could turn "us all into suspects" as she disputed the claim it was merely updating existing powers over telephones to include the internet.
They debated after watching a Daily Politics film on civil liberties.
