Planning rules changes criticised by Conservative MP

Conservative MP Bob Blackman has told the Daily Politics that proposals to to ease planning restrictions in England could lead to people having to "take down" extensions or "scale-back" on them.

Ministers announced last year that they wanted a three-year relaxation of the planning rules to allow single-storey extensions of up to eight metres for detached houses and six metres for other houses to be built without planning consent being required. The proposals are being voted on in the House of Commons.

Brian Berry, CEO of the Federation of Master Builders, argues the changes will make the "planning system simpler and easier for householders".
