SNP MP Angus Robertson: 'We will vote against war'

The Scottish National Party leader, Angus Robertson, has urged the Commons to vote against the government's motion on the principle of military action against Syria.

He said MPs must not give the Prime Minister a blank cheque for military strikes in principle or in practice.

He said the UK could not risk escalating the crisis "causing further deaths and worsening the humanitarian situation".

Robertson also made it clear that the Scottish National Party and Plaid Cymru would vote against action if they were not satisfied with the government's compliance with international guidelines on military intervention.
