Labour conference: Cooper on crime figures and PCC role

There have been 30,000 fewer crimes solved since the election, and far fewer cases of domestic violence and rape referred for prosecution, said the shadow home secretary.

Yvette Cooper claimed that "victims were being let down, being failed" and more abusers were "getting away with it", because of cuts to the police service.

She said Labour was reviewing the role of police and crime commissioners, but would wait for a report due later this year before making a decision. She said: "We are very clear reforms will be needed".
