UK Energy Research Centre on utility bills and tax rates

Britain is said to have some of the lowest gas and electricity bills in Europe, according to Ofgem, but tax rates in other countries can make them much higher, and account for up to half of the final energy price.

Professor Jim Watson, from the UK Energy Research Centre, said the UK had a "much more competitive market" and helped explain the tangled figures.
