Boris Johnson MP? Mayor linked to Croydon South seat

Boris Johnson could "get away" with standing for a Parliamentary seat in the capital at the 2015 general election during his last year as London mayor, said a former Conservative MP.

Now a journalist, Michael Brown said: "I would put a little bet on Croydon where there is a vacancy."

Sitting MP Richard Ottaway, who has a 15,000 majority in the Croydon South seat, is to stand down at the next election.

Friday's Daily Telegraph reported the mayor wished he was in Parliament, external, and some see him as a future Conservative Party leader.

Mr Johnson had previously said he would see out his mayoral term which ends in 2016, but not seek re-election. He was the MP for Henley in Oxfordshire from 2001-08.
