Conservative conference: UKIP links and Cameron survey

Nearly a quarter of Conservative activists thought their party should consider a deal with UKIP, but two-thirds were opposed to such a link-up, a BBC Sunday Politics survey has found.

The poll showed 26% said the PM was in touch with the lives of ordinary voters, and 63% believed legalising gay marriage would cost the party more votes than it gains.

Adam Fleming spoke to Tory councillors Tom Pursglove, Louisa Thomas, David Simms and Simon Fawthrop as they approached the party conference in Manchester, and looked at the ComRes results.
