BAE shipyard job cuts regrettable but inevitable, says Hammond

The defence company BAE Systems is to cut 1,775 jobs in the UK after a fall in government orders.

More than half will be in Portsmouth, where shipbuilding will end next year, while the remainder will be at two Scottish yards - in Glasgow and Rosyth - and at Filton near Bristol.

The Defence Secretary Philip Hammond told the House of Commons that the move was regrettable but inevitable.
