Labour to reduce union influence over leadership

Trades unions will no longer control a third of the votes in Labour leadership elections, under proposed changes to be announced by Ed Miliband.

MPs and MEPs will also have some of their influence over leadership contests reduced, in what Mr Miliband wants to be a one-member one-vote procedure.

The party has been reviewing its procedures and union links since allegations of vote-rigging involving the Unite union surfaced in Falkirk last year.
