UK floods: How to prepare the UK for the future?

As David Cameron repeats his promise of "whatever it takes" to overcome the floods and the Environment Agency faces budget cuts, there are warnings for the future.

The Environment Agency has put talks about a proposed 1,500 post closures on hold while it deals with the crisis.

But in the face of budget restraints and changing weather, experts say improved engineering, planning and defence is vital if the UK is to cope with future floods.
