Grangemouth plant: Ineos boss calls for UK shale gas

The UK has got to embrace shale gas, said the boss of the Grangemouth chemical plant who claimed UK taxes were making the site uncompetitive.

In a personal film for BBC2's Daily Politics, Tom Crotty from Ineos, the company that runs the Forth Valley plant, said that high energy prices were damaging the industrial sector.

He said shale gas was cheaper than other energy sources and was driving a "manufacturing boom" in the USA, while his firm was importing it from across the Atlantic.

He added: "We need UK-produced shale gas and this country has huge reserves of it".

Mr Crotty will debate his film with Conservative Chris Grayling and Labour's Margaret Curran on Wednesday's Daily Politics around 12:40 GMT.
