Boris 'should be allowed' Tory leadership bid

Conservative party rules should be changed to allow Boris Johnson to stand in the party's next leadership contest, the London mayor's father has said.

Speaking to Radio 4's Today programme, Stanley Johnson said it was necessary for the party to find an "appropriate system", given that the current model only allows MPs to stand for Tory leadership.

Asked about Education Secretary Michael Gove's recent claim that there are too many Etonians in the current government, Mr Johnson joked that he does not "take any notice" of the Conservative MP as the "past participle of give is Gove".
