Umunna: Budget was missed opportunity

The Shadow Business Secretary Chuka Umunna has responded to negative opinion polls, insisting that the Labour party was listening to voters and that the Budget was a missed opportunity for the Tories.

Speaking on The Andrew Marr Show, Mr Umunna said that what mattered was how people would vote at the general election and that there was "no rabbit pulled out of a hat" on childcare, unemployment, energy prices or falling earnings, as many had expected.

Asked about the Budget proposal for giving the public more control over their pensions, Mr Umunna said that in principle Labour would support that idea, but that more detail was needed and they "need to see the Bill...I'm not going to sign a blank sheet of paper."
