Nick Ross on TV licence fee and paying for BBC services

BBC bosses "hugely underestimate the talent here" said the writer and broadcaster Nick Ross who has backed calls to scrap the licence fee and bring in subscription.

He said the the 90-year-old payment system was redundant and archaic, and claimed funding by subscription would liberate the BBC.

In his own version of the comedy W1A, which he said was "pretty close to the bone", the former Breakfast News and Crimewatch presenter made the case for a change in the way BBC services were funded.

Mr Ross debated his film with MPs David Willetts and Emily Thornberry on Wednesday's Daily Politics and the full programme, including this debate, will be on iPlayer for seven days.
