Mike Penning on benefit backlog and welfare changes

The minister for disabled people said "the people who really need the money are getting the money" when he was asked about a backlog of benefit payments.

Mike Penning said there were now fewer appeals, and that it was "better for everybody" that there was less work for judges and the appeal court.

He spoke to Andrew Neil on the Daily Politics about Atos paying the government compensation for leaving its contract, and why he did not sack the firm which has undertaken tests on people claiming benefits.

The Conservative MP said the wait for terminally-ill people to receive benefits had been cut from 28 days to "less than ten days now", and was set to fall to between three to five days.
