Labour MP Danczuk welcomes child abuse reviews

Home Secretary Theresa May has appointed the head of the NSPCC, Peter Wanless, to lead an investigation into the handling of documents relating to claims of a paedophile ring at Westminster in the 1980s.

Labour MP Simon Danczuk, who has been calling for action by the Home Office in relation missing files, welcomed the move and said that he believed "an informal network of paedophiles" had existed.

Peter Wanless's review, which will cover how police and prosecutors handled information given to them, is expected to report within 10 weeks.

The home secretary also announced a wide-ranging, Hillsborough-style inquiry into historic child sex abuse claims, "to consider whether public bodies and other non-state institutions have taken seriously their duty of care to protect children".
