Scottish Labour needs rebrand says ex-MP Dennis Canavan

The Labour Party in Scotland needs to become an independent Scottish Labour Party with a rebrand if it wants to "be worthy of support", said a former party MP.

Dennis Canavan, who was later an independent MSP, and a Yes campaigner in the Scottish referendum. was reflecting on the state of his old party after Johann Lamont stood down as leader at the weekend.

But he was unimpressed with the names being mentioned as potential future leaders, claiming they had "all been in bed with Tories over the referendum campaign" and all voted for the "Tory benefit cap".

He told Jo Coburn on the Daily Politics that only "Westminster dinosaurs" could apply for the job.
