Redundancy cap will hit lower-paid workers, unions warn

The Conservatives have vowed to cap public sector redundancy pay-offs if the party wins May's general election.

The party's election manifesto would pledge to introduce legislation to limit payments to £95,000, Treasury minister Priti Patel said.

Dave Penman is general secretary of the FDA, the union which represents senior civil servants.

He warned that the cap would target workers such as nurses, police officers and teachers, and not just those in senior positions.
