Scottish Labour leader Jim Murphy stands down

Jim Murphy has formally stood down as leader of the Scottish Labour party after it lost all but one of its seats in the 2015 general election.

Mr Murphy said he would "leave the stage" on Monday, having lead the party since December 2014.

"I will of course be a source of discreet advice, if asked for it, by my successor," he added as he addressed journalists in Glasgow.
