EU talks: Cameron hints at referendum in 2016

David Cameron has given his strongest hint yet that the referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union could be held next year.

Mr Cameron had promised the public an in-out vote by the end of 2017, but he said he believed that 2016 would be the year "we achieve something really vital".

He was speaking after talks with EU leaders, where he set out his demands for reform.
