Boris Johnson bows out of leadership race

Boris Johnson has pulled out of the race to become the next Conservative leader and British prime minister.

In his speech, which had been billed as his campaign launch, the leading Brexit campaigner quoted from Shakespeare, alluding to treachery by his former ally Michael Gove who announced his own candidacy earlier on Thursday.
