Angela Rayner: Grammar schools are 'vanity project'

Shadow education secretary Angela Rayner has called grammar schools "a vanity project" and she told the Today programme they do not create school places for local children who need them.

Extra money for new schools in England, including free and grammar schools, are set to be announced by the chancellor in his Budget on Wednesday.

Philip Hammond is expected to confirm a one-off payment of £320m for 140 new free schools on top of the 500 already pledged to be created by 2020.
