Brexit: MPs reject any no-deal option in two votes

MPs rejected a no-deal Brexit in two votes on Wednesday, despite the government having whipped Conservatives not to back it.

Dame Caroline Spelman, who put her name the Spelman/Dromey amendment, had unsuccessfully tried to withdraw it a few hours ahead of the vote, but it was tabled by Yvette Cooper and passed by 312 to 308.

MPs then voted on the amended motion, and the numbers changed with 321 MPs then supported no deal, with 278 against, and so the majority rose to 43.
