Osborne: 'We were prepared for the unexpected'

Chancellor George Osborne has insisted that the UK is in a strong position to "deal with the consequences" of the vote to leave the European Union.

"We were prepared for the unexpected," Mr Osborne said in a statement aimed at calming financial markets after the Brexit vote triggered market turmoil on Friday.
