University vice-chancellor says research bids 'hit by Brexit'

The vice-chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University, Prof Chris Husbands, says that research bids have been hit by uncertainty following the Brexit vote in the UK's referendum on EU membership.

He told BBC Newsnight that European researchers on four out of 12 projects due for submission at the end of August have said they "no longer feel that the UK should be a partner".

Newsnight is also aware of concerns raised by academics at Bristol, Oxford, Cambridge, Exeter and Durham.
